The story of the East India Beer Company is the story of smuggling routes, salty winds on the high seas and shipwrecks. A bygone era where craftsmanship, courage and pioneering were words of praise. Where a simple dream from India grew so strong that it could be felt all the way from here. A dream about beer.

In the 18th century, India was a cauldron of cultures. Bengali merchants, moguls, pirates and European governors competed for power. It was a diverse environment, where a certain golden shimmering drink was in demand. Unfortunately, India's hot climate made beer brewing a hopeless endeavour. It was simply not possible to brew beer.

This was, of course, a lucrative opportunity for brave seafarers in the barren north. But creating a beer that would withstand half-year-long voyages on stormy seas placed completely new demands on the brewmasters. The answer was an over-fermented beer with a higher alcohol content and a higher proportion of preserving hops. India Pale Ale, or IPA, was born. A strong beer brewed for world sailing.
